MALEK: Duct tape a dad's best friend

Luke's portrayal of my "pet peeve" (Sunday, Aug. 29) as the petty issue of lip smacking simply reflects his lack of life experiences.

While he focuses his thoughts on geopolitical issues, I must deal with the realities of being a parent. All parents will identify with the frustrations of dirty socks left on the steps, T-shirts in the front hallway, tools stored outside in the rain, car keys not on the key rack and cereal bowls in the wrong place in the dishwasher.

Yes I may have pontificated occasionally about lip smacking, but it was not my "pet peeve," only one of the many issues we parents struggle with as we do the best we can to raise our children. I did give Tara a roll of gorilla duct tape should Luke forget that dinner time lesson.
