Lumberjacks sweep Timberwolves

VOLLEYBALL

COEUR d'ALENE - Marlee Masterson had 12 kills and three aces as the St. Maries Lumberjacks defeated the Lake City Timberwolves 25-13, 25-16, 25-5 in a nonleague match on Thursday at Lake City High School.

"We came out ready to attack," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "We had an all-around great effort from everyone. Our passing was on tonight. Abbey (Anderson) and Tia (Asbury) were on their game tonight in the back row."

Jaylee Sines had 26 assists, Tia Asbury had 17 digs and Lankin Anxo had nine kills and 12 digs for St. Maries (1-0), which will host Bonners Ferry on Thursday.

Jennifer Schuman had five kills and Kelli Jo Cutler three kills for Lake City (0-1), which hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

Post Falls d. Sandpoint

SANDPOINT - Allison Meehan had 10 kills as the visiting Trojans defeated the Bulldogs 14-25, 17-25, 25-20, 26-24, 15-6 in a nonleague match at Les Rogers Court.

Ashley Jibby had 19 digs and three digs, Tori Bertsch 21 assists for Post Falls.

"Enthusiasm was key, celebrating every point and holding on to that intensity," Post Falls coach Willow Hanna said. "We got a handle on that and were smarter on offense."

Sierra Monti had six blocks for Post Falls (3-0), which travels to the Mariner Invite on Saturday at Juanita High in Kirkland, Wash.

Sam Buratto had 11 kills and Blake Plaster 24 for Sandpoint (0-1), which travels to Coeur d'Alene on Tuesday.

KELLOGG - Jordyn Samuelson and Shayna Waechter had six kills apiece as the Wildcats (2-0) defeated the Hawks 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 at Andrews Gymnasium.

Chelsea Bayley had five assists for Lakeland (0-5), which hosts Freeman on Thursday.

COEUR d'ALENE - Amanda Pehan had 13 kills and five blocks to lead the Miners past the Panthers in a nonleague match at Holy Family Catholic School.

"The girls really stuck in there," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Chris Smith said. "We came together a little more as a team than against Orofino."

Emily Verhaeghe had five kills, two aces and one dig for Coeur d'Alene Charter (0-2), which hosts Kellogg on Tuesday. Lexi Turkenburg had three aces and Brianna Marshall 10 assists for Coeur d'Alene Charter.

Kaitlyn Hoffman had 16 assists, Amanda Hoiland had nine digs and Taylor Pasley had eight aces for Wallace (1-1), which travels to Lakeside on Thursday.

POST FALLS - Alexis Smith scored two unassisted goals in the second half to push the Trojans past the Timberwolves in a 5A Inland Empire League match.

"Lake City did a great job of controlling the first half," Post Falls coach Becky Thompson said. "In the second, we took over the pace of the game. I was very proud of the girls for the way they stepped up in the second half. Jackie (Amende) and Kendall (Hoerner) played really well."

Hannah Slinkard had nine saves for Post Falls (2-1-1, 1-1), which hosts Moses Lake on Saturday.

Brittany Amburn had five saves for Lake City (1-1-1, 0-1), which travels to Lewiston on Sept. 11.

ST. MARIES - Chelsea Thaut had nine saves in goal for the Lumberjacks in a scoreless draw against the Badgers in an Intermountain League match.

"This was a good game for us," St. Maries coach Paul Ebert said. "We worked a lot better together today. We made a couple changes in practice and I was pleased with the outcome, especially against a team like Bonners Ferry."

St. Maries (0-4-1, 0-2-1 IML) will travel to Kellogg on Thursday.

ST. MARIES - Andre Zarate scored on a breakaway goal in the 80th minute to lift the Badgers past the Lumberjacks in an Intermountain League match.

"We played extremely well today," St. Maries coach Chris Renaldo said. "We've never beaten Bonners."

Ryan Kennelly scored on a penalty kick in the first half for St. Maries (1-3-3, 1-1-1 IML), which will host Lakeland on Sept. 13.

George tops at invitational

PRIEST RIVER - Timberlake sophomore Ashly George won girls medalist honors in a time of 21:21 at the Priest River Invitational at the Ranch Club.

Timberlake's girls won the team title with four runners in the top five.

Micah Krmpotich of Bonners Ferry won the boys race.
