If you're looking to kick back over Labor Day weekend, North Idaho has a lot of activities to offer.

St. Maries' Paul Bunyan Days runs today through Monday, while Spirit Lake's Labor Day on the Grass runs from Saturday to Monday.

The Spirit Lake celebration on Saturday features a bike ride down Mount Spokane on Saturday at 8 a.m., bluegrass concert by Let it Ride at City Park from 2-4 p.m. and a memorial jam for Jim Brown Sr. starting at 4 p.m.

Brown, a longtime Spirit Lake resident and musician, died in June at 79 of heart failure.

"Jimmy was an upstanding citizen in town," said Marc Kroetch, an organizer of the festivities.

Sunday's agenda includes a car and motorcycle show and three concerts, including George Bruner and Friends at 11 a.m., George and Jeanne jazz concert at 3:30 p.m. and Wizer classic rock concert at 5 p.m.

The parade will be on Monday at 11 a.m. on Maine Street and a talent show will be held at 1 p.m.

There will be vendors and kids activities throughout the weekend.

The event is a fundraiser for Spirit Lake's recreation center on the lake that will open next spring.

Contacts for the event include: bike ride, Kroetch, 623-5130; vendors and talent show, Jeanne Bruner 304-4615; and car and motorcycle show, Dean Massender, 818-4371.

At Paul Bunyan Days in St. Maries, there will be a pet and doll parade on Main Street from 7th to 13th tonight at 5:30 p.m., followed by outhouse and bed races at 6 p.m.

Saturday's agenda includes a 5-kilometer fun run/walk at the high school at 8 a.m., Junior Olympics at City Park at 10 a.m. and logger water events at the city pool at noon.

A carnival, vendors and food booths will be open at City Park all day Saturday and Sunday and starting at noon on Monday.
