COEUR d'ALENE - Don't label "The Gallery" as just another gallery.

Rose Robbins says this one is different.

"We call it an inspired collection of fine art," she said. "We don't have a particular style."

The Gallery is set for its grand opening at 100 W. Prairie from 4-7 p.m. Saturday. The work of about 10 artists from North Idaho, Seattle, Denver and Montana will be on display, and several of the artists will be on hand to talk about their work.

There will also be music and refreshments.

"We're very excited," Robbins said of her first business venture with husband Todd Shield.

Robbins, a former musician, said she is a freelance photographer and poet.

"My art is photography with poems written on it," she said.

Her husband builds fine furniture.

She said the idea for an art gallery came about when they were talking to friends about how hard it is to survive in North Idaho as an artist.

"We think that art should be displayed because it's quality art, not because the artist knows the right people," Robbins said.

Some of the artwork that will be displayed Saturday includes sculptures, paintings, water colors, charcoal sketches and fused steel and glass.

"We'll have quite a variety," she said.

Hours of The Gallery will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. There will be live monthly music events.

In January, Robbins is planning an art competition, with the winner receiving a one-person, month-long show at The Gallery.
