North Idaho College has selected Sheldon Nord, the former CEO of Universitas Pelita Harapan in Indonesia, as its new vice president for student services.

From 2007 to 2010, Nord served as CEO of the 11,000-student university - the first non-Indonesian president of any university in that country.

"Sheldon is a great fit for North Idaho College. He has a superb record of success in student services at four institutions, including Weber State and Eastern Oregon University," said NIC President Priscilla Bell. "He will bring new approaches and perspectives to the college as a result of his international experience as well. I look forward to the many contributions I know he will make to NIC.

Nord replaces Eric Murray, who resigned in July to accept a president's position at Cascadia Community College in Bothell, Wash.

From 2003 to 2007, Nord served as vice president for student affairs at Eastern Oregon University, and served as dean of students at Weber State University in Utah from 2002 to 2003. He served as dean and vice president for student affairs at Oregon Institute of Technology from 1997 to 2002 and previously served in a variety of roles at Indiana University and Corban College.

"My wife, Jamie, and I feel honored to be joining the great team at North Idaho College. We look forward to working with such wonderful people, and look forward to living in such a beautiful region. The NIC vision and mission statements are consistent with my personal and professional philosophy of providing student-centered accessible education," Nord said.

Nord graduated magna cum laude from Corban College where he earned his bachelor's degree in social science. He received his master's degree in college student services administration from Oregon State University and his doctorate in higher education from Indiana University.
