Ebel retiring as Lakeland coach

RATHDRUM - Kelly Jo Cutler had 10 kills for the Lake City Timberwolves in a 25-13, 25-17, 25-16 nonleague win over the Lakeland Hawks at Hawk Court on Tuesday night in what was Lakeland coach Claudia Ebel's final home match.

Ebel announced that she's retiring as a teacher and coach at the end of the season. She's coached the Hawks for some 30 years.

Mackenzie Brown had six digs and four aces, Madi Farrell had four blocks and Camille Rounds had 20 assists for Lake City (8-16), which travels to Lewiston on Thursday in the opening round of the 5A Region 1 tournament at Booth Hall.

Sonora Wilkes had five assists and two aces, Erin Ogden had 10 digs and Sharon Gardner had four kills for Lakeland (2-26), which faces Moscow in the opening round of the 4A Region 1 tournament in Sandpoint on Saturday.

PLUMMER - Jennifer Mitchell had 27 assists and five aces as the Knights defeated the Miners 25-11, 25-16, 25-20 in a District 1 playoff to advance to a 1A Division I state play-in match Saturday at St. Maries High.

"The girls came out playing really well," said Lakeside coach Jan Mitchell said, whose Knights jumped out to a 20-2 lead in the first game.

Lakeside (11-2) will face the third-place team from the District 2 tournament Saturday at 5 p.m., with the winner advancing to state Oct. 29-30 at Declo High.

"The girls were definitely ready to play tonight," Mitchell said. "Several of them played really well. We're a good, solid team."

Joelle Miller had 12 kills and four blocks, Ashley Gauthier had 12 digs and Maria Garcia had 11 digs and six kills for Lakeside.

Kaitlyn Hoffman had 10 assists, Amanda Pehan had nine blocks, Mackenzie Dire had nine digs and Jamie Dodge had four kills for Wallace (3-10).

ST. MARIES - Jaylee Sines had 41 assists for the Lumberjacks in a 25-21, 25-13, 28-26 nonleague win over the Bulldogs.

"We mixed the ball up real well tonight," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "Jaylee had a really good game tonight both offensively and defensively."

Marlee Masterson had 18 kills, Lakin Anxo had 10 kills and nine digs and Tia Asbury had 20 digs for St. Maries (22-5), which faces the winner of the Priest River/Bonners Ferry match at noon in the District 1 tournament Saturday at Lakeland High in Rathdrum.

Kootenai

MULLAN - Sophomore Kami McKinnon had seven kills, 18 assists, three blocks and one ace for the Tigers in a 23-25, 25-15, 25-21, 23-25, 15-11 win over the Warriors in a 1A Division II playoff match at the Pavilion.

Mullan (11-4) advances to play at Clark Fork on Thursday to determine the league's lone berth to the state tournament in Division II.

"We came and fought, but we made a few errors," Kootenai coach Mandy Love said. "Both teams fought hard. I was proud of our girls. I told them I was not at all disappointed in them and was proud of how they played."

Ana Parker had nine kills and 13 assists, Olivia Kincheloe had 11 digs, Brie Benson had nine kills and three aces and Ellison Schultz had three blocks for Kootenai, which finishes 2-9.

COEUR d'ALENE - Kana Shanley had 17 aces for the Royals in a 25-13, 25-10, 25-14 win over the Lions in a Mountain Christian League match at Canfield Middle School.

Alexis Bassett had seven kills, Hannah Henke had 10 assists and Desi Reardon had nine digs for North Idaho Christian (11-8, 8-4 MCL), which travels to Pullman Christian on Tuesday.
