NIC: Nightmare in a parking lot

| October 3, 2010 12:56 PM

I am a student at NIC and this is my third semester there. This year has been challenging to find a parking spot and get to class on time. This is because of a 36 percent increase in enrollment.

I just received my first parking ticket in 33 years on campus. I drove around every parking lot and assigned parking areas for 15 minutes and could not find one spot to park. I have bought an NIC parking pass for the last three semesters and have managed to find a spot until today. I also just am getting over a gallblader surgery and am still walking a little gingerly. I had no other option but to park in front of meter parking to get to class on time.

The only change I found in my vehicle went into the meter which gave me 40 minutes. Once class was over I had a $30 parking ticket on my windshield. So the $20-plus I paid at the beginning of the semester does not guarantee me a parking spot. I am not the only victim, this has been a problem for many so far this year.

What are we to do? The college doesn't seem to have a solution for this. It will only get worse this winter when the snow comes! Concerned student informing our community.
