NELSON: Record is clean, exemplary

| October 3, 2010 10:00 PM

I recently read a letter by Nanci Currie concerning Jai Nelson, the Republican nominee for Kootenai County Commissioner. I was dismayed by Ms. Currie's inaccurate accusations, as I have known Jai for many years.

How do I know Ms. Currie's allegations were completely false? Because unlike Ms. Currie, I asked Jai directly and she gave me point blank and honest information.

First, Jai Nelson has served as a general contractor. However, these projects were prior to 2006; before the contractor registration requirement was implemented.

Secondly, the functional structure of her business has not required her to pay the county for equipment, displays or tools. Lastly, Jai Nelson has been a successful business owner for many years as a sole proprietor. Per the Secretary of State and Statutes, individual business ownerships are not required to be registered. Furthermore, earlier this year, Jai mothballed her business in order to campaign and adequately prepare to represent the citizens of Kootenai County.

In addition to her business, Jai is a registered nurse who works on an advanced care cardiac unit providing care for patients with mechanical hearts, heart transplants and open-heart surgical patients. She is also on the Board at Lutheran Academy of the Master and has served as a court appointed representative for abused children. Jai has the leadership skills and problem solving skills needed to serve our citizens and move this county forward.

In addition, Jai's extensive experience as a businesswoman and overseeing of multi-million dollar projects will serve her well in the role of county commissioner, especially when the time comes to update our building ordinances.

The voters of Kootenai County made the smart choice in the primary when they selected Jai Nelson from among the three candidates listed. I hope they will make another smart choice and select her again on Nov. 2.
