William (Bill) H. Swann, 91, of Mica Bay, Coeur d'Alene, passed away Nov. 22, 2010, at the Coeur d'Alene Homes senior care facility with family in attendance. He was born on March 1, 1919, in Spokane, Wash.

Bill's lifelong passions have been planes, boats and family. He served as an instructor for Navy pilots in World War II.

After the war, he graduated from the University of Washington and began a career as a registered mechanical engineer in four states.

Besides work, Bill became a builder of boats and continued to enjoy flying. He and his wife Pat retired to their home on Mica Bay. There he was also a volunteer fireman and a member of Rotary.

He served as a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Air Pollution Control Association, the Civil Air Patrol, Delta Sailing Club and Spokane Sailing Club, and Quiet Birdman.

Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Jim; sister Ruth and daughter Melissa; and two nephews Bill and Jim Goddard.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; children Cindy Mowery, Christie Dugan and Dick Swann; sons-in-law Peter Mowery and Cliff Dugan and daughter-in-law Libby Swann; grandchildren John and Paige Mowery, Bryan, Garett and Matthew Dugan, and Matthew Swann; great-granddaughter Stella-Grace, and nephews Bob, Roger and Terry Swann, and Doug Goddard and Anne Jones.

The family suggests the memorials may be made to Coeur d'Alene Homes or Hospice of North Idaho.
