Herbert Carithers Samms, 87

Herbert Carithers Samms passed away Nov. 25, 2010, in Coeur d'Alene. Herb was born July 10, 1923, to Herbert and Lillian Samms of Wallace in Moscow.

Herb grew up in Wallace where he graduated from high school. He then enlisted in the Army Airforce where he served in Guinea and the Philippines as an Aerial Photo Gunner on a B24. After the Army, he attended the University of Idaho majoring in business. Later he worked at Point Barrow, Alaska, for more than a year.

After returning to Wallace, he met and married Cynthia Huguenin in 1955. He continued working in Wallace for ASARCO at the Galena Mine for 20 years. He was a lifetime Mason and a lifetime Elk - serving as officers and Exalted Ruler. Music and carpentry were special interests in his life, and he loved cutting discs as gifts for special friends. Herb and his wife Cynthia, moved to Coeur d'Alene in 1992 and took part in "Rambling Rovers" and "Welcomers Club."

He loved his family above all. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia; sons Scott Samms (Bonnie) of Winnemucca, Nev., and Bret Samms (Amy) of Coeur d'Alene; three granddaugthers, two grandsons and 1 great-grandson. He will be greatly missed by all, we love you!

There will be two memorial services:

1) Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Coeur d'Alene at St. Lukes Episcopal Church (Fifth and Wallace).

2) Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Wallace at the Wallace Elks (419 Cedar).
