COEUR d'ALENE - Dave Miller and Coeur d'Alene city councilwoman Deanna Goodlander had a lot to be thankful for Saturday at the 2010 Festival of Trees Gala at The Coeur d'Alene Resort.

The two guest speakers faced life-threatening emergencies which resulted in positive outcomes for both of them thanks to the care they received at Kootenai Medical Center.

"This past year I passed a major milestone in life ... I have now been alive for 21 million moments," Miller told the crowd. "Ever since my accident I count the moments in life because I have learned that in a moment life can change significantly. I can't say thank you enough to Kootenai Medical Center for the care they provided to me."

Proceeds from this year's festival will help purchase specialized equipment for the emergency department at KMC.

Hand-crafted artwork and trees represented the 42 displays up for auction which raised $160,000 thanks to the 350 guests in attendance.

The final tally of the four days of fundraising events won't be known for another month.
