James A. Daly, 94

James A. Daly, 94, of Coeur d'Alene, died Nov. 23, 2010, in Coeur d'Alene. He was born April 11, 1916, in Frazee, Minn., to Edward and Mary (Singer) Daly. Jim moved to this area at the age of 9 with his mother after his father's death.

Jim served in the U.S. Marine Corp and later in the Marine Corp Reserves. He married the former Virginia Berry on Jan. 21, 1946, in Coeur d'Alene.

He was a member of St. Pius Catholic Church, VFW, American Legion, Eagles and Elks, all of Coeur d'Alene. He also belonged to the National Rifle Association and was a gun enthusiast. Jim was a great gardener and was known for his famous tomatoes.

Early in his life, he managed the Bozanta Tavern which is now the Hayden Lake Country Club. After his military service, Jim worked as the office manager for the Veterans Administration here in Coeur d'Alene until 1961 when he was transfered to Boise. He assisted veterans with applying for G. I. Benefits.

James is survived by his wife, Virginia, at home; son and daugther-in-law, Mike and Lucinda Daly of Seattle; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Mike Reed of Coeur d'Alene, and JoAnne Smith of Hayden Lake; five grandchildren and three great-grands.

Funeral Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2010, at St. Pius Catholic Church, 625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d'Alene, with burial to follow at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Coeur d'Alene.
