| November 22, 2010 1:39 PM

On Nov. 7, 2010, our loving husband and father, John Derby Briggs, went home to be with the Lord.

He lived a life of service to Christ and others. He touched countless lives through 40 years as an educator, many of those as a high school guidance counselor. He served as the principal of Lake City Junior Academy in Coeur d'Alene in the 1960s and returned to Idaho to retire in 1992.

He will be greatly missed by his family, as well as the countless students whose lives he touched throughout his career and his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Judy Briggs; his sister, Charlotte Chevrier; his children, Kathleen Rogers, Marilyn Ruth Heath, Jennifer Bertleson and Jonathan Briggs; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 4, 2010, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 111 Locust Ave., Coeur d'Alene.
