Elizabeth 'Betty' Poland, 88

Elizabeth Emily "Betty" Poland, of Athol, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010. She was born in Wheaton, Minn., Nov. 13, 1922, to Emil and Lillie Heidelberger.

In 1933 the family moved to a farm in Payette. Betty was confirmed in St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Payette, on June 5, 1938. She attended Payette High School and was married to Harry "Roy" Poland March 12, 1942. They lived several places throughout Idaho and Oregon until finally settling in Athol in 1961.

They immediately started a family. Betty stayed home, caring for the needs of their children. She made clothing, churned butter, grew and canned vegetables, attended school functions and helped with homework late into the evening. When her children were grown and gone, Betty took up painting; which her family proudly displays on their walls.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Roy (Feb 1, 2010).

She is survived by her siblings: Louis (Ida), Ontario, Ore.; Marie, Pasadena, Calif.; Marvin (Donna), Payette; Joan (Bernie), Fruitland; Rose also of Payette; 11 children: Lela (Don) Page, Spirit Lake; Lee Poland, Osburn; Danny (San Dee) Poland, Pasco, Wash.; Vic (Jo Ann) Poland, Trout Lake, Wash.; Larry (Katie) Poland, North Bend, Wash.; Sue (Bill) Macklin, Spirit Lake; Tim (Raytha) Poland, San Antonio, Texas; Cindy (Don) Bell of Woodbury, Minn.; Terry Reeves, Utah; Rick (Tricia) Poland, Pasco; Tom Poland Athol; 27 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Her family would like to thank Life Care Center of Coeur d'Alene for all their wonderful care over the past five years, with a special thanks to all who came by to give Mom a little extra hug or kiss on the forehead or word during her last days. Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 26 2010, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Funeral service will be held at noon Saturday, Nov. 27, 2010, at Athol Baptist Church followed by graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery, Athol.
