Hale, Cardinals win border battle

MEN'S BASKETBALL

SPOKANE - Sophomore guard Michael Hale had a team-high 30 points to lead the third-ranked North Idaho Cardinals past the Community Colleges of Spokane 105-97 in a nonconference game at Central Valley High on Thursday.

"You've got to give credit to Spokane, they played hard and played well tonight," NIC coach Jared Phay said.

Tyrone White added 17 points and Nick Fromm had 16 points and six rebounds for NIC (8-0), which hosts the North Idaho All-Stars on Nov. 27.

The biggest assist of the day came earlier Thursday, as Phay welcomed a baby girl to the family.

"It seemed like the never-ending day," Phay said. "But it's been a good day."

Nate Frisbie, formerly of Lake City High, had two points and five rebounds for Spokane in its season opener.

CASPER, Wyo. - Freshman Corina Baker had a team-high 15 points as the 14th-ranked North Idaho Cardinals defeated the Eastern Utah Golden Eagles 77-61 in the Casper College tournament.

Deanna Dotts, Kama Griffitts and Camillle Reynolds added nine points each for NIC (6-0), which faces host Casper College today at 6 p.m.
