COEUR d'ALENE - A storm packing strong winds and heavy rains that rolled in Monday night and early Tuesday knocked out power to 18,500 homes and businesses south of Coeur d'Alene, but none in the Lake City and surrounding towns.

Avista Utilities said the areas of Potlatch, Grangeville, Kamiah and Cottonwood were hit the hardest. There were a few outages in the Spokane area.

Kootenai Electric Cooperative had as many as 500 members without power early Tuesday, but all power was restored by late afternoon.

The storm knocked down fences, blew trash around and snapped tree branches, but otherwise North Idaho escaped unscathed.
