James (Jim) Edward McDonald, 78

James (Jim) Edward McDonald, of Medimont, passed away Nov. 11, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Valley City, N.D., to Daniel and Agnes (Daigel) McDonald.

Jim attended school in Valley City until the seventh grade then worked to help support his family. He joined the Army in 1952 and served in the Korean War until 1955. In 1954 he married his sweetheart Donna Phillips also of Valley City. Here they started their family before moving to the Washington coast in 1961. Through the GI Bill, Jim learned his profession as a meat cutter. They moved to the North Idaho area in 1977 where he owned and operated the Cave Lake Resort until 1980. He retired from the Kellogg Yokes grocery store in 1993.

He was a member of the VFW. Jim enjoyed bowling, and many outdoor activities, and he especially loved and enjoyed his family.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.

Survivors include his brother, Dan and sister Bernice; wife Donna of Coeur d'Alene; his six children, Lynn (McDonald) and Jim Kohl of Post Falls, Ed and Diane of Coeur d'Alene, Chuck and Bev of Meridian, Rich and Tammy Cork of Aberdeen, Wash., Joe and Susie of Post Falls, and Richie and Belinda of Kingston; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank Hospice of North Idaho for all their loving care during this difficult time.

Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene Chapel. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, is entrusted with the care of final arrangements.
