Ira A. Schauer, 77

Ira A. Schauer, 77, of Cataldo, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center in the company of his loving children. Ira was one of 10 children born to Charles and Rosetta Schauer of Harrison. Ira was born in Belfair, Wash., on Sept. 30, 1933.

He is preceded in death by his parents; seven siblings; his first wife, Barbara and his fourth wife, Pearl.

His brother, Chet Schauer of Amarillo, Texas, and sister Verna Davis of Trenton, Wash., suffer his loss, and will miss him greatly.

In 1960, Ira married Barbara Tosh of Coeur d'Alene, and there were four children of the marriage. Ira served 20 years in the USAF, and retired at the rank of Staff Sgt. He was an active member of the VFW in Osburn. Upon his retirement, Ira sometimes worked as a sawmill hand, did logging, was a short-order cook, in and throughout, Idaho and Montana, and he was a cannery worker and an oil field roustabout in Alaska for a time. His leisure hobbies included: Going fishing, Wood Carving, Reading Louis L'Amour, and going to Bingo at the Osburn VFW.

Ira is survived by his current wife: Pam Schauer, her son Garry and grandson Jacob; his former wives: Carol, Charlotte and Patricia; the children of his first marriage: Delia Bell, William Schauer, Barbara Skinner and Katherine Hawthorne; his grandchildren: Bradley, Jessica, Steven, Nicholas, Russel, Krystina, Douglas, Brandon, Jennifer and Audrey; and his great-granddaughter: Payton.

A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at the Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens, at 7315 N. Government Way, and a celebration of his life will be held afterward in Post Falls.
