GREEN: Know fact from trash

I've read one too many letters to Readers Write, to contain my disgust of the uninformed blowhard Green Power bunch.

CO2 in the atmosphere is 1 part in 3,000, a little more if you sit in the grandstands at the NASCAR races and a little less if you take a walk in the woods. It has been that way for more than a thousand years, and probably will be for the next 1,000 years because there are more trees now than ever before. Trees turn CO2 into oxygen.

Clean coal power plants remove the CO2 by scrubbing the stack gas. That is why it is called clean coal. CO2 dissolved in water makes carbonic acid that unites with calcium to form limestone rock. Every time it rains more CO2 in the atmosphere is dissolved in the rain water. It has been going on forever.

Nuclear power plants emit no CO2. A very small amount of radiation comes out of the Off Gas Exhaust Stack of a nuclear power plant; about one-quarter of the background radiation level. The background radiation in the U.S. is 1/9 of the background radiation in Brazil.

Methane gas (natural gas) is the byproduct of decaying hydrocarbons. It comes out of the ground, and is a byproduct of hydrocarbon decay. It and oil come out of the ground, even if you don't drill for it. It is also a byproduct of animal and human waste stream, used to power the waste water treatment plant.

Everything man has ever needed or will ever need to survive was here before man ever appeared. It's not by accident.

I suggest the Green Power advocates, give up your warn, well lit house and ride your bicycle or walk wherever you go and leave the comforts of the good life for those of us who appreciate them.
