ECONOMY: Buy American goods

| November 14, 2010 9:00 PM

In support of Mr. Cliff Bowman's letter Nov. 10, I'd like to stress how important it is for us to buy and insist on American products. Our politicians won't do a thing to help this situation since the Asian countries spend millions of dollars in lobbying efforts to stop any kind of tariff put on the foreign goods. We as Americans must do that on our own.

Look; it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what is happening to our economy. We have better than 10 percent unemployment. Chinese are begging people to migrate to China since they need workers. Our cities are devastated (Detroit is a ghost town) while Asian cities are looking like a jewel, our roads and airports are falling apart, etc. etc. Just take a minute and watch Donald Trump's interview with Greta on the Web.

We used to give foreign aid to the Third World countries; now we owe trillions to the Chinese. Our middle class is disappearing since the good paying jobs have gone overseas and the only items we make in America are hamburgers! What is the source of all of this? We used to be a producing country and now we have become a consuming country.

Least we can do is support the American car companies; they are better made and cheaper to buy. Asian automobiles are not made here - they are assembled here just like we used to assemble Fords and Chevys in the Third World countries. Besides, the profits go to Tokyo Japan and Seoul Korea rather than being paid to American stockholders.
