Allen Carl Sorge, 65

Allen Carl Sorge, of Hayden, passed Nov. 11, 2010, in Spokane, Wash. He was the sixth of eight children born to Ernest and Viola Kramp Sorge at home, northwest of Deshler, Neb., on July 15, 1945.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Deshler. As a young man in Nebraska, Allen worked at Vyron Phillips in Davenport and a maintenance man for the city of Shickley. He served in the Kansas National Guard from 1966 to 1967. After moving to Montana, Allen met his "mail order bride," Janis Freund of Cando, N.D., while driving the Amish on the West Kootenai. They were married May 5, 1986, in Eureka, Mont.

Allen and Janis raised three wonderful children; Steven Hanson and Anna Sorge of Hayden and Kimberly Freund of Spokane. Allen worked in the Sawmill industry both in Montana and Idaho for 24 years.

His hobbies included carpentry work, welding, gardening, hunting, reading and most recently raising his chickens. During his later years Allen took great joy in spending time with his three grandchildren, Cheyenna Hanson of Hayden, and Emma and Brayden Freund of Spokane.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Viola and his uncle, Wilfred Ficken.

He is survived by his wife, three children and three grandchildren; brothers Victor, Harvey and Norman, all of Deshler; sisters Dorothy Boss of Davenport, Neb., Esther Cellan of Ashley, Ohio, Mabel Hogeland of Bruning, Neb., and Eunice Anderson of Lincoln, Neb.; and Aunt Cleora Ficken of Davenport.
