| November 10, 2010 7:51 AM

Born on Aug. 8, 1929, in Waverly, Mo., and resided in Coeur d'Alene. Passing away on Nov. 7, 2010.

Memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, 2010, at Hayden Lake Friends Church.

Our beloved mother passed peacefully on Nov. 7, 2010, at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d'Alene.

Betty was born to Charles and Ida Parker on Aug. 8, 1929. She had four brothers who have all preceded her in death. Her family came from Missouri to Lewiston in 1942. They moved to Spokane where she later met and married Calvin Smith on Aug. 28, 1948, and worked as a homemaker raising two daughters, Gayle and Sheri. Betty and Calvin retired to Hayden Lake in 1975.

Betty led an active life and was able to travel the world. She loved fishing in Hayden Lake and proud catching a trophy trout. She was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge No. 210 and Guardian of Jobs' Daughters, Bethel No. 64. Betty loved to volunteer. She made quilts for CASA Partners Inc. (501c3). As a regular volunteer for the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, she was named Volunteer of the Year for her dedicated work. Betty loved to watch things grow and enjoyed gardening. Our mother had a strong faith in God. She requested not to weep over her, as she would be in Heaven with Jesus. Her warm, caring love will be held in our hearts forever.

Betty is survived by her two daughters: Gayle (Larry) Kiser, Sheri (Richard) Suryan; grandchildren: Cary (Shari) Christiansen, Matthew Suryan, Tim Suryan and great-grandchildren: Caitlyn and Brandon Christiansen, and Baby Girl Suryan due in February. She is also survived by: Sandy (Marty) Levy, Shirley Parker, Marilyn and Jack Bilben, Myrna and Don Johnson, and Florence Smith.

The family would like to express caring thanks to Dr. Brendon Mielke and Dr. Robert Benedetti, staff at Kootenai Medical Center, Hospice and Fairwinds Assisted Living Staff.
