SCHOOLS: Trim more, tax less

| November 7, 2010 9:00 PM

I could not believe my eyes when I saw the headlines in Wednesday's Press that the school district can't keep its pledge. What is wrong with those people? Didn't they understand Tuesday's election results? Do they not understand that people are really fed up with tax and spend policies?

I have friends and neighbors who have been out of work for more than two years, friends that have lost their homes to foreclosure, friends that are on a fixed income like me, and these people want more tax money? Ms. Bauman, how much more blood do you think you can squeeze out of this turnip?

I think the school district should do like the rest of us, trim your budget to the bare bones, cut your sacred cows, dig down and find the waste and trim, trim and keep trimming, as we have had to do. There were no free breakfast/lunch and sure as hell weren't any free lunches in the summer, our parents provided sack lunches for us. Try trimming those things and see how much you can save!

I am so sick and tired of hearing "it's for the children." Improve the discipline in our crowded classrooms, remove the problem student so the teacher can teach and not be distracted.

I think the voters just passed something for the "children" with the building of the new tech school, which we will be paying for with new increases in our taxes in future years.

Enough is enough !
