| November 5, 2010 12:32 PM

Sept. 6, 1916 - Oct. 26, 2010

Forrest G. Godde passed away in Lancaster, Calif., after a lengthy illness. Forrest was born in Lancaster and was a longtime rancher in Antelope Valley. He was a part-time resident of Hayden Lake since the 1960s.

He is survived by his ex-wife, Margaret C. Godde; sons and daughters-in-law Steven and Denise, and Gary and Barbara; daughter and son-in-law Pamela and Jay Kopelman; 10 grandchildren; as well as a sister and brother.

Forest and his family have a home on Hayden Lake. He purchased land south of Coeur d'Alene where he worked endless hours developing and maintaining a successful cattle ranch and timber lands. He managed his timber lands to yield a sustainable harvest. Years later he left his land and ranch in qualified hands to pursue other business opportunities in Nevada and California.

Forrest was an astute businessman who spent his whole career ranching in California, Nevada and Idaho as well as maintaining the Godde family vineyard in California. He was active in the community and on several boards both in Coeur d'Alene and Lancaster. Until this year he was very involved in the activities of his businesses.

One of Forrest's favorite sayings was, "shoot those ducks while they are flying." By this he meant to take advantage of any opportunity while it is available. He followed his own counsel which resulted in his success as a businessman.

Family and friends remember him as a determined, strong hard worker as well as being kind and generous to family, friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were held in Lancaster on Oct. 30, 2010.
