Suicide prevention seminar scheduled for Nov. 12

Kootenai Alliance for Children and Families will be presenting a seminar on suicide prevention on Friday, Nov. 12.

It will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the St. Pius X Catholic Church great room, 625 E Haycraft Ave.

Catherine Perusse, executive director of Bonner Partners in Care Clinic, will be the featured guest speaker and QPR certification trainer.

"This QPR certification program teaches citizens how to recognize the warning signs, clues and suicidal communication of a person in trouble," according to a press release. "Being QPR certified gives you an action plan than can result in lives saved.

Organizers said Idaho is among the states with the highest suicide rates. They said that in 2007, it had the 11th highest suicide rate, 28 percent higher than the national average.

The free seminar is open to the public. Lunch (optional) is $5. Registration forms should be returned by Nov. 9, and are available at www.kootenaialliance.org or by calling KACF, (208) 676-8293.
