Ever sat and paid attention to how much your body shifts its own weight around? If you did you would be amazed to see how much our body tells us subconsciously that there are harmful amounts of pressure building and we need to move. So what do individuals do when their body has impaired sensation, and has no idea when there are harmful amounts of pressure building?

Most of these people sit on what is called a pressure relieving cushion. These cushions come in a wide array of choices ranging from, skin protection, positioning, skin protection and positioning, and adjustable skin protection and positioning.

A skin protection cushion is usually a planar cushion made with different types of memory or visco foam, intergraded with high resiliency foam. Positioning cushions help aid with individuals with lack of pelvis or postural control stay in a more mid-line posture in their seating system. The next two cushions categories skin protection and positioning, and adjustable skin protection and positioning are a mixture of two cushions in one. The difference between the adjustable and non-adjustable is adjustable cushions are intergraded with air or gel in either the whole cushion or in the pelvis region. This type of cushion is typically provided when one has no sensation, and or skin breakdown.

Cushions can be a wonderful tool to help relieve your (or your loved ones) pressure, provide comfort, and stability.
