Hale leads NIC in opener

COEUR d'ALENE - Sophomore point guard Michael Hale scored 22 of his game-high 32 points in the first half as the third-ranked North Idaho Cardinals defeated the Salish Kootenai Bison 124-89 in the men's basketball opener for both at Christianson Gymnasium on Tuesday night.

Former Lake City standout Nick Fromm had 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting for NIC, which travels to Miles City, Mont. on Thursday.

"I thought Nick and Jake (Owsley) were big for us with their ability to run the floor," NIC coach Jared Phay said. "That's one of our goals every night to be able to outwork the other team's bigs."

Dennis Sangrey had 29 points for Salish Kootenai.
