VOTE: Pendulum swings two ways

| November 1, 2010 6:48 AM

It is interesting to hear all the candidates (wishful thinking) and incumbents (why didn't you do it sooner?) keep espousing how they will cut spending, lower taxes, give us all jobs and generally make our lives so wonderful - IF we vote for them.

The practical side is that our economy and jobs and our comfortable lives as we knew it will not return for years, if ever.

The Republicans are promising to overturn Health Care Reform - why? Just because it is a Dems proposal. They are using scare tactics about throwing seniors out of Medicare. The Health Care proposal as it stands now needs some reforming, not elimination. But without reading all 2,000 pages of the bill, the Rs just rejected it out of hand without even trying to work together on it or on any other worthwhile bill just because we finally got a president that wanted to get things done.

The Republicans inherited a balanced budget in 2000; and in eight years put us in trillions of dollars of debt.

In eight years they never proposed Health Care Reform; discussions about Social Security/Medicare or deal with illegals crossing the border by the millions. Eight years and nothing. Oh, they did deregulate the banks and financial houses so they could rob us blind AND get billions in federal dollars while throwing millions of working families out of their homes. Now all the R's continue to do is be a roadblock to real reform. They would rather whine and complain and throw dirt than work together to get real changes made.

Well, their chance is coming. The dynamics in the House and maybe Senate will change next week. Will the new crop of members be willing to finally work together for the good of the country, or will they still try to fight the president on any and everything he wants to get done?

After all the celebrations are over, including the public celebrations that the hate ads are done, let's hope that the entire Congress will really settle down and get to work: Health Care reform, immigration reform, SS and Medicare reform, banking reform, etc. There is another election in two years and we will be following your progress, or lack of it.
