Cora Ulvan, 89
LCDR Cora Marie Ulvan, 89, went to her heavenly home on Oct. 26, 2010. Cora was born Feb. 23, 1921, in Fargo, N.D., to John and Emma (Riste) Ulvan.
After becoming a nurse she was drafted into the Navy Nurse Corps where she served the troops during WWII in Farragut and Long Beach, Calif. After a five-year absence from active duty, she was recalled to the Korean Conflict aboard the Gen. J.C. Breckenridge where she made 17 trips to Japan and Korea.
Throughout her career, she served at various bases in Virginia, Washington and California. Retiring from the Navy after 25 years as a Lt. Commander, Cora lived in the San Diego area where she was very active in her church, and loved cooking, entertaining, doing arts and crafts, and volunteering at the Navy Museum. In 2004 Cora moved to North Idaho where she lived with her niece, Linda.
Cora is survived by her sister, Ruth Styler. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Herman and Edward Ulvan, and sisters, Helen Jones, Evelyn Weisman and Annie Ulvan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews including locally, Jim, David, Gary and Sandy Ulvan, and Linda Isaacson.
The family wishes God's rich blessings on the wonderful staff of By the Lake Assisted Living on Honeysuckle, and the Auburn Hospice of North Idaho staff, both of which surrounded her with their love and care. Thank you so much. Cora was such a joy to know.
Cora's life will be celebrated by the family at a future date. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d'Alene, was entrusted with the care of her final arrangements. You may visit Cora's memorial and sign her online guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
