COEUR d'ALENE - Coeur d'Alene Cellars will roll out the barrel again in just over a week, with the reopening of Barrel Room No. 6 at 503 Sherman Ave.

With the economy improving and a promise of a warm summer, the small restaurant that provided an outlet for the popular and highly rated wines of the Coeur d'Alene winery will reopen on June 3 after about a year as a venue for private parties only.

"We will be open Wednesday through Saturday through the summer and play it by ear, see how it goes," said Steve Simisky, who will manage the wine bar. "We'll have outside seating, and re-do the menu."

Items will include light fare and appetizers, with prices in the $4 to $12 range, he said, and will feature the 14 different varieties of Coeur d'Alene Cellars wines exclusively, along with a selection of beers.

"We look at ourselves as the before and after bar," Simisky said.

For now, only minor interior modifications will be made, but eventually Simisky hopes they can put a glass window in the entry hall and possibly make the front part of the restaurant an open-air area.

New wrought iron chairs and tables will be set up on the sidewalk, and the wine barrel tables will get new glass tops. The slate floors will get a resealing, while most of the rest of the interior will remain the same.

Approved for 88 occupants, the room will be set up for 70, including the outside seating.

The reopening will feature the saxophone music of Ron Kieper from 6-9 p.m.

Hours will be 4-9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, with happy hour 4-6 p.m., and 4-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
