F.C.C. rule reminds of wireless device

COEUR d'ALENE - The Kootenai County Sheriff's Department wants to remind people that pursuant to a new F.C.C. rule, anyone who uses a wireless microphone, or similar device, that operates in the 700 MHz Band will have to stop operating their wireless microphone or similar device no later than June 12.

The 700 MHz Band has been reassigned to emergency service providers for radio and data transmission.

"Continued use of wireless microphones in this band width can cause interference with communications for emergency service providers," according to a press release.

Common users of such wireless microphones include theaters, churches, schools, conference centers, theme parks sports leagues and musicians. Users will need to retune or replace their equipment prior to the federally designated deadline of June 12.

Semi crash partially blocks Highway 3

ST. MARIES - A crash involving a semi on Highway 3 on Monday partially blocked the road for about three hours due to a detached and overturned trailer.

According to Idaho State Police, David L. Chapman, 58, of Huntley, Mont., was northbound in a 2007 Kenworth hauling two empty gas trailers around 6:50 a.m. north of St. Maries.

The rear trailer went over the fog line on a narrow shoulder, broke loose and struck a telephone pole. The tractor and first trailer remained on the road.

Chapman, who was not injured and was wearing his seat belt, was cited for leaving the lane of travel.
