Viks fall in semis

| May 22, 2010 9:00 PM

BOISE — Centennial scored 11 runs in the sixth inning to overtake the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 16-9 in a state 5A semifinal game Friday night at Memorial Stadium.

Chad Nyquist and Ryan Dunton had two RBIs apiece for Coeur d’Alene, which led 6-5 in the sixth before the big inning by the Patriots (20-9).

“It was a tough loss,” Coeur d’Alene coach Nick Rook said. “You never expect to give up an 11-run inning. In that situation, I’d give the ball to Devon (Austin) again. Unfortunately, we ran into a buzz saw in the sixth with walks and timely hits.”

Coeur d’Alene (22-10) faces Rocky Mountain (20-9) today in the third-place game at Memorial Stadium at noon.
