WOLVES: Info on whereabouts vital

| May 21, 2010 10:00 PM

In regards to the article “Wolves kill hunting hound,” the article referenced a spokesman from Fish and Game who mentions that “there are a number of drainages in the Panhandle where wolves roam” and “anyone taking dogs into those area needs to be careful.”

As an avid outdoorsman I am trying to figure out what to do with that statement. On a daily basis, residents take their dogs out into the woods to go hiking, fishing, camping, etc.  They are part of the family and they love to go. However, none of us wants to risk our pet’s lives for these outings either.  So, if the drainages that continually hold wolves are known, then this information needs to be released by Fish and Game and reported by the news sources.

Though the days of a risk-free outing (from wolf killing) are probably over at least we might be able to avoid the heavily infested areas. The only other options would be to always carry a short leash and a firearm or just leave your pet home.  What a shame!
