ElderHelp shootout is Friday

| May 20, 2010 9:00 PM

The odds may be long, but one short tee shot could be worth $1 million on Friday.

The second annual $1 Million Shootout ElderHelp/NIAHU Charity Golf Tournament on Friday will include a drawing for two participants to take a shot at a hole-in-one on the par-3, 170-yard 18 tee at Avondale Golf Club.

"ElderHelp gets 50 percent of the proceeds, and the NIAHU uses the rest for other community projects," said Tom Lucas, executive director of ElderHelp.

Last year, the North Idaho Association of Health Underwriters presented ElderHelp a check for $3,500 from the first tournament, said Ruth Kirk, volunteer administrator for the organization that provides services to low-income seniors in Kootenai County.

An entry fee of $100 includes the round of golf, a cart and lunch catered by Texas Roadhouse. Foursomes will play a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m., with check-in at 7 a.m. Those needing to be matched with other golfers can sign up individually.

About half of the available 100 slots are still open, as are opportunities for sponsorships and prize donations.
