WARD: He's there for the whole nation

| May 19, 2010 7:31 AM

I’ve been reading the newspapers and a fair number of websites gathering information on the candidates running for the Republican nomination in the 1st Congressional District.  We need a candidate with a servant’s heart, not the typical DC-style politician who’s only out for his own interests. Idaho needs someone in Congress who understands “It’s not about me.”

That’s why I was disappointed with Raul Labrador in a recent televised debate.  The last question of the evening was essentially, “If you lose the primary, will you support your opponent in the general election?” Vaughn Ward said “Yes,” without hesitation. Labrador was obviously calculating when he said (paraphrased) “It depends.” Really? Such an answer suggests that if Labrador loses the primary, as seems likely, he’ll take his ball and go home.

I can understand if Labrador would be disappointed he didn’t win, but selfishly refusing to help his party’s candidate shows what his true interests are – promoting himself rather than the well-being of Idahoans.  In contrast, Vaughn Ward showed he understands what’s at stake this year.

Vaughn Ward has shown through a life of service to this nation that it isn’t about him – it’s about what’s best for America. If you were confused or disappointed with Labrador’s attitude, as I was, join me in voting for Vaughn Ward on May 25.
