IB: Too little for too few

| May 19, 2010 10:00 PM

Over the past few months I have been watching the discussion regarding the IB & PYP programs in our "PUBLIC SCHOOLS."

I have not had a child in the public school system here, choosing for 12 years of private school instead, so I have not been exposed to the IB program until the recent debate arose. This has become a very passionate subject on both sides.  I have read the pro and con letters in the paper and one point was very clear,  the opponets of the IB program and the Kolers in particular, have done their homework providing references and citations supporting their beliefs. I have not seen that detail from those supporting the program. I took the time to do a bit of research on the topic.  It would appear that there are in fact reasons for concern about some of the content and goals of the IB program.

As a property tax payer in the county, I'm not sure that I care to have my money fund this type of program. Cancel the program and maybe you won't have to charge for lockers or other programs that affect all the students, for a program that may or may not benefit a few.
