Trojan girls win region title

LEWISTON - Buoyed by a pair of record-breaking performances, Post Falls won the girls team title at the 5A Region 1 meet at Vollmer Bowl.

Kadie Booth, Allison Meehan, Josie Tennison and Shaundra Scott teamed to break the school record in the 4x200-meter relay, winning in 1 minute, 46.08 seconds. The old record was 1:46.3, set in 1992.

Kacie Shields broke the school record in the 300 hurdles, winning in 47.48. The old mark was 48.1, set by Misty Baker in 1990.

Booth, Meehan, Tennison and Scott also teamed to win the 4x100 relay. Scott won the 100, Booth the 200. Shields also won the 100 hurdles.

Kinsey Gomez of Coeur d'Alene added a win in the 1,600 to her win in the 3,200 on Thursday. Dayna Drager of Coeur d'Alene won the 400, Rachel Ward of Lake City the 800.

In the boys meet, Coeur d’Alene edged Lake City by one point for the regional title.

David Norris won the 800, Cody Curtis the 1,600 for Coeur d’Alene. Allen Carmichael won the 110 hurdles, Kaleb Mitchell the 300 hurdles for Lake City, and the T-Wolves also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

At the 4A meet, Latecia Howell of Lakeland won the 100, adding to wins in the long jump and triple jump on Thursday.

State is next Thursday and Friday at Boise State.

Timberlake trio clinch state berths

SPIRIT LAKE — Ryan Sacksteder (3,200), Travis Porter (high jump) and Ashly George (3,200) of Timberlake punched tickets to the state 3A meet with wins on the first day of the 3A District 1-2 meet.

Timberlake’s sprint medley team of Brian Tucker, Chris Williams, Gaelen Guzman and Dalton Chamberlin also clinched a berth to state in a time of 3:39.8.

Field events continue today starting at 9 a.m., with running events to start at 10.
