Timberlake to play Kellogg for district softball crown

SPIRIT LAKE - Nicole Cameron struck out seven and had an RBI single in the first inning to lead the Timberlake Tigers past the Priest River Spartans 5-0 in the semifinals of the 3A District 1-2 tournament at Timberlake High on Friday.

Timberlake (14-9) will face Kellogg (10-8) in today's championship game at noon.

"Those runs in the first inning allowed our pitching and defense to be fantastic," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "It gave Nicole a chance to pitch with the lead, which was good to have with such a young team."

Jordyn Muhlhauser added an RBI single for Timberlake in the first inning.

Priest River (5-15), which defeated Bonners Ferry earlier Friday, will face St. Maries (14-7) in a loser-out game today at 10 a.m., with the winner advancing to face the loser of the championship game in the second place game at 2 p.m.

Kellogg 18, St. Maries 8: Taylor Huber had three doubles and five RBIs to lead the Wildcats past the Lumberjacks in the other semifinal game.

"Taylor was outstanding today," Kellogg coach Alan Williams said. "Our defense was a big plus today. Both Taylor and (Kirsten) Viche made some outstanding catches on line drives."

Tarrah Ivie had three RBIs for Kellogg (10-8).

St. Maries faces Priest River today in a loser-out game at 10 a.m.

"Michaela pretty much kept the Orofino hitters under control," Kellogg coach Alan Williams said. "Through the first four innings, they only had one hit."

Timberlake to face

Orofino for title

OROFINO - Tyler Shaffer hit a ground-rule double to score John Morris in the seventh inning to lift the Tigers past the Spartans in the semifinals of the 3A District 1-2 tournament Friday at Orofino High.

Shaffer also struck out eight and went 3 for 4 with two doubles for Timberlake (14-6), which faces Orofino in the championship game today at 12:30 p.m.

"I'm pretty proud of that kid right now," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said. "I'm proud of all of them for the way we played today."

Priest River (13-10), faces St. Maries (9-14) in a loser-out game today at 10:30 a.m.

"That kind of took the wind out of our sails," St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. "Orofino really mashed the ball today."
