'Mac 'n Cheese Cookoff' is Sunday

| May 15, 2010 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - This won't be your grandmother's macaroni and cheese. It won't be your mom's either.

This is the stuff created by some of the best chefs of Coeur d'Alene.

A "Mac 'n Cheese Cookoff" to benefit cancer research is scheduled 1-5 p.m. Sunday at the Greenbriar Inn, 315 Wallace Ave.

Organizer Alex Endo said there will be both restaurant and individual competition.

Local chefs participating include Adam Hegsted of the Coeur d'Alene Casino; Jesse Spratford of the Icon and the Beacon; Matthew Curmi of the Bistro on Fourth; Jared Angele of Angelo's Ristorante; CJ Coop and Lori Smith of the Wine Cellar and Joe Henninger of Crickets.

Pilgrim's Market will provide a gluten and dairy free mac and cheese.

The public is encouraged to come out, sample the mac and cheese offerings whipped up by the chefs, and donate money to the one they believe is the best.

There will also be live music and other raffle prizes.

Endo is running the New York Marathon in November and put together the cookoff as part of his fundraising efforts. Funds will go to the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan, N.Y.

A door prize being offered is a free entry to the Coeur d'Alene Marathon or half-marathon on May 20. There will be door prizes offered every 30 minutes.

Greenbriar owner Kris McIlvenna donated use of the Greenbriar Inn for the event.
