Johnson run is Saturday in Post Falls

| May 7, 2010 9:00 PM

POST FALLS - The second Jordan Johnson Memorial Fun Run/Walk will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Greyhound Park and Event Center.

There will be 5K and 10K runs along the Centennial Trail. There is also a mile run for those 11 and younger.

Registration at the event is $20 for the longer runs, and the mile event is $15.

The event is a fundraiser for programs of the Boys and Girls Club of Kootenai County, which is named after Johnson.

Johnson was a Post Falls High student-athlete who died at 15 in 2006 due to a heart condition while he was on a family vacation in the Virgin Islands.

A few months later, Johnson's father Tom, a developer and builder, died in a motorcycle accident in Mexico.

There will be posters of Jordan at mile markers along the routes. Last year more than 100 participated.

There will be goody bags, T-shirts, prize drawings and snacks.

Registration forms are available at the club at the Nazarene church across from Mullan Trail Elementary, at www.northidahobgc.org and at the race.

Runners, walkers, wheelchairs and strollers are welcome.

The club provides after-school and summer programs for more than 500 youth ages 6-18 each year. The nonprofit plans to build its facility next to the Post Falls Library on Mullan Avenue when enough funding is secured.
