Carol Joyce Putzier, of Post Falls, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Puyallup, Wash. Carol was born on Dec. 26, 1934, in Pinedale, Wyo., to John and Laurel Thompson.

When Carol was a young girl, the family moved to the Spirit Lake area of North Idaho, where Carol went to high school. She graduated from Spirit Lake High School, and after high school, worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C. After returning to Idaho, she met Marvin Putzier, and they were married in Priest River on March 18, 1956

Carol and Marvin settled in Coeur d’Alene and later Dalton Gardens, where they had four children, and raised and trained Thoroughbred race horses. They later moved to Eastern Washington, where she avidly followed her children’s sports activities and continued with her husband in the horse racing business. She worked for many years at Endicott Drug in Endicott, Wash.

After Carol’s children were grown and her husband Marvin retired, they traveled with the horses to racetracks throughout Washington, Oregon, Montana and Canada. Carol made many friends along the way, and loved to travel. She especially loved reading, fishing, betting on the horses, and more than anything, loved her four grandchildren Pete, Antonia, Cody and Ashley. Carol was noted for her unfailing generosity, and her cheerful, giving spirit.

Carol and Marvin were married for 49 years until he passed away in 2004. Carol is survived by her daughter, Marvol and son-in-law Sam Barnard of Green Valley, Ariz.; daughter Lisa and son-in-law Van Raris of Tremont, Pa.; son Marvin Jr. (Deke) and daughter-in-law Tammy of Edgewood, Wash.; son Colin of Kennewick, Wash.; grandchildren Panagiotis (Pete) and Antonia Raris of Tremont, Pa., and Cody and Ashley Putzier of Edgewood, Wash.; sisters Marjorie Brown, Janet Pederson and Judy Sensintaffer, and brothers Sidney Thompson, Gaylord Thompson and Jack Thompson.
