BASKETBALL

The Spokane Stars Blue defeated the Spokane Stars Red in the championship game of the Spokane Stars Shootout at Global Fitness in Spokane Valley on March 20-21.

Freshman Brooke Litalien of Post Falls High and junior Carli Rosenthal of Coeur d'Alene are on the Stars Blue team.

Sophomore Erin Legel of Coeur d'Alene and freshman Dani Failor of Post Falls are on the Red team.

The Stars Senior team, which lost to the Stars Blue in the semifinals, included Post Falls senior Katelyn Loper.

WRESTLING

Members of the Buzzsaw wrestling club competed at the Northwest regional tournament March 27-28 in Battle Ground, Wash.

In freestyle, Garrett Demers (cadet, 171 pounds) and Kenny Staub (junior, 140), each placed second.

In Greco-Roman, Demers placed third and Johnny Peregrina (junior, 171) took third.

Other Buzzsaw entrants Tristan Dunn, Kyle Siegwarth and Jake Graham all won at least one match in both styles.

GYMNASTICS

Team Avant Coeur shines: Inland Empire Gymnastics Association's Team Avant Coeur won optional team of the year at the state gymnastics championships at Memorial Gym in Moscow, and took home 11 state titles.

A total of 43 athletes took part from Coeur d'Alene, and the girls took home 10 individual state titles, and the level 10 (the highest level) team title.

"This was really a rebuilding year for us, having lots of athletes to graduation last season, but the girls stepped up well, even with some pretty tight judging," said head coach Lisa Adlard. "We weren't sure how it would finish, but winning the team of the year again was a huge relief, and showed us that we're on the right track."

At Level 10, Stormi Winter was fourth all-around, and placed third on vault (9.20), third on balance beam (9.0) and fourth on floor (8.675).

Erin Stone was fourth on bars with 8.425, second on beam (9.175) and fifth AA (34.25).

Sami Thexton, returning from shoulder surgery, only competed on vault, where she placed second with 9.225, and floor, where she was fifth with 8.575.

Hannah Wolf placed second on bars with 8.7 and fifth on beam with 8.575.

Winter, Stone and Thexton also qualified to the regional championships in Seattle April 9-11.

In level 9, the Avant Coeur girls finished second as a team.

Chelsea Averna was the top individual finisher at L9, placing fourth all-around, and finishing third on vault (8.85), third on bars (8.9) and fifth on floor (8.85). A fall on beam kept her from claiming her fourth all-around title of the year.

Katherin Pope finished sixth on floor with 8.725. Both Pope and Averna also qualified to regionals.

Morgan Abrams, a senior at Lake City High, competed in her final state meet, and finished third on vault (8.65), and fourth on floor (8.95).

Tonisha DePasquale was fifth on beam with 8.45, and Victoria Moyer was fifth on vault with 8.35.

In level 8, Courtney Cutting was fourth all-around with 36.225. She was also third on vault with 9.025, fourth on bars with 9.1 and fourth on beam with 9.075.

Zoey LaRue was fifth on beam with 8.6 and was fifth all-around with 35.4.

Ashlyn Smith was fourth on floor (9.3) and seventh all-around (35.05).

Brooklyn Bunch was sixth on floor with 9.05.

The level 8 team was fourth.

In level 7, Nicole Dundas had the best performance of the meet, capturing the state all-around title with a meet high 37.3. She was also first on vault (9.225), bars (9.45) and floor (9.3). She was also second on beam with 9.3.

Arlaina Stephenson was fourth on floor (9.15) and sixth AA (34.525)

Kyra McFeely was 10th on floor with 8.6, and Tessa DePasquale was seventh on floor with 8.825.

In Level 7 senior, Dani Lawson was the top performer, finishing fifth AA with 34.75. She was also third on vault with 9.15, and bars with 8.475.

Megan Morris claimed the balance beam title with an 8.8, and was fourth on vault with 9.0.

Tia Jessup was also state champ on vault with 9.2.

Cassidy Stulc finished sixth on floor with 8.925

The level 7 team was second.

In the compulsory levels, the local athletes also fared very well.

In level 6, Kiandra Carpenter was fourth AA with 33.675, and was also fourth on bars, and fifth on vault.

Amber Mallet was third on bars (8.85) and fourth on floor (8.525)

Alli Nilges was eighth on floor with 8.35, and Maddie Stackow was fourth on bars with 8.0

In level 5, Ashlin Couch was third on floor with 8.65 and sixth all-around.

Delani Robbins finished third on vault (8.55) and fourth on bars (8.2)

Mackenzie Roth was sixth on beam (8.45).

Peyton Mark was sixth on vault with 8.35.

In level 4, the team finished in sixth place.

Katie Nungessar was the state champion all-arounder with 36.525. She was also state champ on beam (9.225), floor (9.1) and was second on bars (9.0).

Tyler Priddy was the state bar champ in the children's age group with 9.125. She finished fourth on vault with 9.425, fourth on beam with 8.6 and fourth all-around with 36.125.

Lauren Carlson was fourth AA (35.8) and was second on vault (9.425), beam (9.15) and fourth on floor (8.875).

Cassidy Foster was third on vault with 9.35 and fourth on vault 8.8.

Brianna Kelly was eighth on vault (9.15).

Allie Kyes was seventh on vault (9.2).

Alicia Gage was fifth on beam with 8.75 and fifth AA (35.2)

In level 4 Senior, Wendi Fencl was second all-around (35.2) as well as second on vault (9.425), bars (8.5) and beam (8.85).

Flip Factory at state: Three members of the Flip Factory Gymnastics men's team competed last weekend at the 2010 Idaho state men's gymnastics championship in Boise.

At the men's grouping for Level 6 Stephen Johnson finished second in the all-around with a 78.5 score. This included a first-place finish in floor, vault and parallel bars.

At the men's grouping for Level 4 10-11 year olds, Chase Pearson finished fourth in the all-around in his first state competition. He scored a 81.55.

At the men's grouping for Level 4 8-9 year olds, Kameron Morgan finished 13th in the all-around with a 75.3 in what was also his first state competition.

At the completion of the meet a vote was taken and Flip Factory Gymnastics, now located at 237 Hayden Avenue in Hayden, was awarded the 2011 Idaho state men's gymnastics championship scheduled for March 19, 2011
