Donald L. Roberts, 73

Donald L. Roberts, 73, went home to be with God on Monday, March 29, 2010. He passed away at Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.

He was born in Salinas, Calif., on June 12, 1936, to Ray and Ruby (Lockhart) Roberts. He graduated from Salinas High School in 1955. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Okinawa.

Don married Kathleen Coughlan on July 18, 1970, in Reno Nev. They moved to this area in 1976 where he set up Big Bear Alignment Shop. A few years later he worked for Alpine Tire and Herman’s Automotive. He also worked for Lakes Highway District and retired from there following a stroke in 1999.     

Don enjoyed jeep racing, and fishing and hunting with his son, Mark. As a member of the Coeur d’Alene Anglers Association, he participated in the free fishing day taking out less fortunate children. When he no longer could fish and hunt he enjoyed pistol shooting.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Roberts of Hayden; three children, Mark (Stephanie) Roberts of Rathdrum, Chuck (Kelly) Roberts of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Donna Roberts of Santa Cruz; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Along with his twin sisters, Carol (Steve) Silva and Linda (Mike) Rush; and brother Jim (Bernie) Roberts.

He was a loving father and husband.

He was a member of Saint Pius X Catholic Church.  

Don is preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial service and Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Saint Pius X Catholic Church. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d’Alene, is in charge of the arrangements.
