TRUTH: Value this key quality

| March 30, 2010 1:09 PM

We have come a long way since our first President George Washington said, “I cannot tell a lie” to our current President Barack Obama who will NOT tell the truth. Remember the story about young George Washington cutting down the cherry tree. This story spoke of his honesty when he admitted to the crime.

In recent years we have created a culture of greed, dishonesty and selfishness. Dishonesty is prevalent in business dealings, in filing our tax returns and in relationships (especially in marriages).

Increasing numbers of celebrities such as Tiger Woods and elected officials of both parties are cheating on their spouses. Recent examples are the governors from New York, New Jersey and South Carolina. Two notorious presidents who lived a lie are Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton and Presidential candidate John Edwards. Hollywood celebrates these scandals of broken trust and sexual immorality.

Comedians treat adultery that results in broken marriages and shattered lives as a joke. Our hypocritical justice system provides legal protection for consenting adults who engage in destructive sexual relations.

President Obama who promised us a transparent honest administration has lied to the American people multiple times. Because of his deceptive practices he has been labeled the most dishonest president in American history. It is obvious he espouses a socialist philosophy where “the end justifies the means.” Mr. Laffen in a recent letter to the editor while discussing the abortion issue indicated everyone has a right to his own moral standards. God who created man gave us moral principles to live by. These are found in Holy Writ as well as being etched in our consciences.

It is ironic that approximately 95 percent of those who are featured on the Sunday In Person column of the Coeur d’Alene Press say that the quality they most admire in others is honesty. When man embraces the philosophy that it is OK for everyone to believe his own truth and choose his own morals eventually it will lead to anarchy. When man makes up his own rules and forces them on others you have tyranny.

Yes, the truth (God’s Truth} will set you free. John 8:32 versus man’s truth that brings bondage!
