The Coeur d'Alene School District's elementary teachers and Fernan Elementary School staff will present the Julie Johnson Jamboree on April 8 at 7 p.m. in the Lake City High gymnasium.

The event combines the annual Spring Chorus Festival with a celebration of the life of Julie Johnson who lost her battle to cancer in November 2009.

Johnson was an elementary music teacher for 23 years, most recently at Fernan, Dalton and Sorensen elementary schools. Previously she taught at Canfield and Lakes middle schools, as well as Winton, Ramsey and Hayden Lake elementary schools.

She also volunteered her time to play piano and direct countless musical theater productions at local high schools.

The Jamboree will highlight the talent of elementary chorus students while raising money for the Julie Johnson Scholarship Fund, which will provide money for talented, underprivileged elementary students to receive vocal and instrumental instruction.

Each elementary school's choir will perform one song, followed by a tribute to Ms. Johnson. All choirs will sing together to conclude the program. The free concert is open to the public, with freewill donations being collected for the scholarship fund.
