HEALTH BILL: Get priorities straight

| March 30, 2010 1:07 PM

Concerning recent letters that I’ve read about the new health care reform bill, I wish to express my frustration at several senators who spoke against the bill.

The main issue seemed to be the clauses concerning federal funding for abortion, and while I do not believe that abortion is a good idea I do not believe that it is moral to sink an entire bill based on this opinion. Millions of Americans are without health care currently, including those infants whose mothers chose against abortion.

Why is it that the right wing senators are concerned about the survival of these children before they are born, but are not willing to ensure health care for these little ones afterword? I am unsure about who could be labeled “baby killers” here. These senators do not seem to be following through on their own logic. I also take issue with senators stating that this bill does not reflect the wishes of the people. They never asked me what my wishes were.

I am a Christian, and I am not a Republican. I have a “Vote Obama” sticker on my vehicle. When I came out of church last Sunday, a fellow churchgoer had left a note on my windshield asking me how I could vote for President Obama and still attend church. It is this kind of ignorance that causes us to lose respect in the eyes of the rest of the world.
