Frieda Mary (Spawn) Groscost

Frieda was born March 2, 1912, in Del Rapids, S.D., to Fred and Lillian Spawn. She grew up and attended school in eastern South Dakota and moved to western South Dakota at a young age.

Frieda met Glen M. Groscost and they were married Dec. 30, 1933, in Sturgis, S.D. They were married for 72 years before Glen’s passing away in 2006. They had moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1934, then to Dalton Gardens, where they resided for 65 years before moving to the Loyalton Coeur d’Alene in 2003.

Frieda was a homemaker and worked alongside her husband Glen, in the Dalton IGA grocery store, Hayden Lake Hardware and Gambles Hardware stores. She retired in 1973. Frieda was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed gatherings with family and friends, traveling with Good Sams, dancing, fishing and her flower beds.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Lillian Spawn; two brothers; four sisters and her husband, Glen.

Frieda is survived by a brother, Russell Spawn of Omaha, Neb.; son and daughter-in-law Larry and Karen Groscost of Coeur d’Alene; daughter and son-in-law Joy and Richard Best of Puyallup, Wash.; grandchildren Charles, Debra, Erick, Colleen, Janis, Karen and Perry, and 13 great-grandchildren.

At her request, she will be cremated and a graveside memorial service will be held a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Coeur d’Alene First Baptist Church, 124 Wallace Ave., Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814 or the Lake City Senior Center, 1916 Lakewood Drive, Coeur d’Alene, ID 83814.
