ACCIDENT: People need to get a life

| March 29, 2010 6:11 AM

Regarding the “I didn’t believe it” story and photo on Wednesday: Talk about needing to get a life!  Doesn’t anyone in this group of picture taking spectators have a life, or a job or anything else to do but get their jollies this way?

Several years ago I saw something similar.  We were driving home from a wonderful vacation in Utah canyon country when we saw many, many tourists parked on the side of the highway all dressed in their tourist shorts and T-shirts with cameras taking pictures. You guessed it, there had been a terrible accident, probably a day or two earlier where a large tractor trailer had hit a dirt bank and accordianed his truck. The trailer had popped open scattering goods everywhere. There was an armed guard there or these tourists probably would have taken more than pictures.

This accident was in an area of incredible scenery and history - Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, Navajo Reservation - but the tourists were focused on and photographing an accident.

I got out and was taking pictures of the tourists’ enjoyment until my husband said I’d better get back in the car. The tourists had noticed I was photographing them in all their glee and apparently didn’t like it.

Like I asked, don’t the people photographing the SUV up a pole have anything better to do than enjoy someone else’s misfortune?
