POST FALLS - A man's body was found in the Spokane River just east of the Washington-Idaho border before 8 a.m. Saturday, according to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies were called to the shoreline area of the river, near Richards Road and West Riverview Drive, after a report was made of a body in the water, the department said.

At the scene, deputies located a deceased male in a very shallow area of the river. Members of the department's recreation safety section and dive rescue team recovered the body.

The sheriff's department said Saturday night that it's unknown at this time how long the body was in the river, what the cause of death was, or the man's identity.

The investigation was continuing Saturday, the department said.
