Sims nominated to RNC summit; Professor wins university award

Sims nominated to RNC summit

Kathy Sims was nominated by Gov. Butch Otter to attend the second annual RNC Women's Summit on Thursday, May 13 at the J.W. Marriott in Washington, D.C. as a representative from Idaho.

She was nominated as an active woman in the community - perhaps a campaign veteran, reliable volunteer or a new supporter who is looking to get involved with the GOP.

Following the summit, Sims will be asked to continue her participation with the RNC Women's Program as they aim to recruit, register, train and sustain a base of women activists and candidates to build the Republican Party, portray the GOP as the automatic option for female voters and win elections.

The 2010 RNC Women's Summit will welcome women from across the country that have been nominated by RNC members or Republican elected officials in their states. The summit will feature prominent Republican elected officials, media personalities and policy experts as well as hands-on training and interactive workshops.

Sims will also have the opportunity to network with Republican women from across the United States.

Professor wins university award

Kathy Canfield-Davis, assistant professor of Educational Leadership at University of Idaho Coeur d'Alene, earned the University's prestigious Excellence in Outreach and Engagement Award for 2009-2010.

Competition for the award includes nominees from the Moscow campus, statewide University Extension and branch campuses at Coeur d'Alene, Boise and Idaho Falls.

Much of her outreach effort focuses on leadership training and education in North Idaho. Canfield-Davis has been instrumental in establishing, designing and delivering outreach master's degree programs in educational leadership to K-12 teachers and administrators in the region. Her many additional outreach and engagement efforts include promoting social justice through active membership in the Kootenai County Task Force on Human Relations, the Gonzaga University Institute for Action Against Hate, the Idaho Humanities Council and the Coeur d'Alene Public Library Board of Trustees.

Working with University of Idaho Educational Leadership assistant professor Don Wattam, Canfield-Davis has developed and delivered University of Idaho educational leadership programs in the Lake Pend Oreille, Post Falls, Lakeland, and the Coeur d'Alene School Districts. Her effectiveness in outreach, engagement and leadership training has been honed through years of service as both an educator and administrator in the K-12 system.
